I agree that it was a good day though not a true Sabbath in the pure sense of the word…they don’t call it a discipline for nothing. Sad that we have to be disciplined to relax…seems a contradiction. We should do it again sometime before you flee the country

The biggest thing I took away from Freedom Writers: some people are not ready or willing to be apart of the change you desire. Yet, that does not mean change shouldn’t happen. When change happens…some people are left behind. When change happens…some people will scream “this is not what I signed up for.” Are we willing to continue despite opposition? A lot of things depend on how we answer.

Freedom Writers is probably one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. A lot of the feelings and themes hit close to home too, which makes it even more real to me. I hope that people change their perspective of what it means to teach and the reality that inner city kids endure. They need someone to believe in them and tell them that they do have worth and have something to contribute, that they aren’t the product of culture and circumstances.

I love the way you do your shading, not just in these studies. It takes a pretty good eye to see just how to layer color and how to suggest light. These are great! Are you planning on posting more?

haha…no, it can’t be too “artsy” it’s just looking at something from a different perspective…that is what art is all about…maybe this specific piece does nothing for you…but the understanding of were it is coming from helps you see things in a different light…and that’s its purpose…explanation of art in many cases is helpful and for me, it is often necessary in order to understand the true intent of the work of art…even though a lot of people will say that you can interpurate it to mean what you want, i think that is lame…i mean the truth is that the artist usually has a specific purpose for what they are drawing…in my case my main objective was two things to explore the function and structure of an object and to explore the use of two materials: charcoal/chalk and coffee

there is no other real meaning behind the painting…it is just a study, same with the pastel below it which is also from a series of drawings of the same objects several times using different techniques so that there is an understanding of how the pastels work to describe the objects…

if you want, sometime i’ll show you what i’m talking about, i think if you could see the other parts of the series it would make more sense
